"Fasting:
History, Health Benefits, Spiritual Benefits"
History
Throughout the ages hungry hearts have been drawn
to the ancient door of fasting. Although differing in
language, beliefs and culture they all have one thing in
common,
a desire to change something deep within themselves.
For thousands of years people have walked the path of
fasting. Jesus Himself fasted before striking out into
His three-year ministry. God uses fasting as an open door
into human hearts. He enters and brings about a great release.
Today, we now have available an abundance of information
confirming fasting’s genius to cleanse and detoxify
the body from years of unhealthy eating, boosting both
the immune system and the body’s natural defenses
from disease. Detoxification of the body is a tangible
parallel of what is occurring spiritually during a fast.
What is transpiring deep in the spirit is clearly depicted
by what is occurring in the body. The body is cleansed
from the by-products of a destructive diet while the spirit
is cleansed from useless fleshy habits and addictions.
The beauty of fasting is its ability to exact powerful
metamorphosis in a short period of time. Imagine if you
were forced to remove all life’s little props. The
coffees, pizzas, ball games, movies, Danishes. Forced to
quiet your life down to the few things that really matter.
Within days, years of fat melt away, mind calms, allowing
deeper meditation and prayer. At first the pain of broken
addictions is acute but short lived, usually ending in
three days.
As a weakened body releases its control over
to the Spirit, peace and contentment replace a normally
stressed and anxious state of mind. The rapidness of change
on both body and spirit during fasting is a great encouragement
to a soul weary of stagnation serving as an excellent launching
pad to total transformation lasting a lifetime. Just when
you thought there was no hope, self-confidence is rebuilt.
Fasting exercises a weary will, developing new independence
to a world clamoring to control you’re every thought
and action.
If you have decided to fast, get ready. This will be the
journey of a lifetime. The deepest part of you, tired and
neglected, rising to meet God. And in Him there is healing
and freedom.
I love windy days. Trees are given a voice; their great
limbs swinging to-and-fro while I run below connected to
a living dance. I have done this many times in my youth,
and find myself doing so again. Freedom is a glorious feeling;
we are created to be free. Those who are born of the Spirit
are like the wind, compelled forward by an invisible force,
not weighed down by flesh and bone or restricted by fear
and doubt. Free to fulfill impossible dreams. This is God’s
will for you and if you are reading this, you are counted
among the seekers. And no matter how far down the hill
of compromise you have slid, there is hope.
First-time fasters need not fear. Even if you have lived
years on the standard toxic diet, done right, fasting is
safe.
Fasting is an essential ingredient of most spiritual
practices since ancient times (Jesus, Moses, Mohammed,
Buddha etc.)
and is based on the recognition of the body as the "temple
of our consciousness."
The body needs to be adequately prepared to sustain different
levels of spiritual experiences. Dense matter and lower
vibrations need to be traded off with light/prana so that
we can evolve.
Fasting is a form of healing and its main focal point
is that when eating is stopped the body shifts into a state
of detoxification. Cells start releasing unwanted toxic
material into the bloodstream with the intention to eliminate
it via the elimination organs - colon, liver, kidneys,
lungs, skin and the lymphatic system.
Fasting goes gradually
into deeper layers of detoxification.
The feeling of hunger is emotionally rather than physically
based because we can always intentionally bypass it. Long-term
fasters, liquidarians, breatharians are living proof of
this.
A critical point is the 36 hours after which the actual
cellular detoxification is activated and the lymphatic
system starts moving substantial quantities of toxins.
In one week the entire bloodstream has been cleansed to
the degree that a person's consciousness has allowed no
more or less of what has been appropriate for the time
being.
Fasting literally means to do without food for a period
of time. It is the oldest form of healing known to mankind.
Unfortunately it is seldom given priority as a healing
method by most medical practitioners. But more recently
it is "fast" becoming more and more popular.
There are numerous types of fasting: fasting on water,
fasting on fresh juices, herb teas, fasting while taking
cleansing herbs. There is a fast in Austria called
The Myers Fast where bread and milk are given; another
fast
in Holland called the Master Cleanse, where maple syrup
and lime juice are given. Whatever fast you choose
should contribute to good health and cleansing.
The CleanseComplete is a unique set of processes and principals
as expertly prepared and designed by Daniel Reid and Zog Zen. It is based on "an elimination
fast" where we take special cleansing herbs and supplements
to eliminate old fecal, mucoid and bile material; excess
lymph
fluid,
stored
fats
and poisons that lie throughout the digestive organs, in
the blood stream and within the body cells and tissues
and it is the most beneficial for good health and well
being.
As these body wastes are eliminated the mind and emotions
are challenged to let go of old attitudes, bad habits and
lifestyles. For many people there can be a reaction that
is known throughout the fasting community called a "cleansing
reaction" or a "healing crises".
For a short time discomfort, such as: headache from coffee
addiction and liver toxicity, alcohol or drugs; nausea
sometimes dizziness or cramping; emotional or mental reactions,
such as: anger, fear and depression can arise.
It is actually beneficial to experience discomfort because
then we know we are truly cleansing. The bad news is that
we have to suffer. The good news is once the poisons are
eliminated we feel great; for most people better than ever
before!
Fasting is the best way to overcome addictions as we clean
out the memory of old drug substances, cigarettes, processed
foods, alcohol, etc. Once we finish a fast we feel vibrantly
alive, healthy and awake.
Spiritual Benefits
Feeling great is a privilege from God and the Great Universal
Light. After a fast we feel amazing, better than ever.
In order to continue feeling so good it is absolutely necessary
to break your fast properly and continue to do so by eating
a whole foods diet for at least the first 10 days afterwards..
This is in order to feel the full benefits of the fast.
The Spiritual benefits from fasting actually are very
much tied in with the physical benefits. Drinking fresh
organic juices, eating fresh raw fruits, vegetables and
coconuts that are alive with enzymes, vitamins, minerals
and fatty acids; while later introducing whole (unprocessed
grains), fresh nuts, seeds and sprouted beans help strengthen
the immune system, empowering us to love ourselves as we
feel so good.
